This project provided evidence on the levels and nature of North-South and East-West cooperation and relations among civic society organisations and local authorities on the island of Ireland, and ran from January 2021 to March 2026.
It supported efforts to engage with relevant policy and decision-makers in order to maintain the necessary conditions for North-South cooperation and to safeguard East-West relations.
The project was supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs’ Reconciliation Fund.
It ensured the ongoing provision of reliable and clear information aimed at citizens on the island of Ireland with cross-border lives, reflective of the changing circumstances arising from Brexit.
One of the activities under the project involved undertaking Quarterly Surveys on the conditions for North-South and East-West cooperation.
The Centre for Cross Border Cooperation called on civic society organisations and local authorities in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland to participate in this important quarterly survey series.
The information provided was crucial for our understanding of the extent to which the necessary conditions for North-South cooperation were being maintained, and how relations between organisations on the island of Ireland and Great Britain were being safeguarded following the end of the Brexit transition period.
The results of the quarterly survey series were totally anonymised, and made available to all.
They have been, and will be, used by the Centre as it works with other organisations to protect North-South and East-West relations.
