New Common Charter Presented to Cyprus Dialogue Forum

The Centre for Cross Border Studies was delighted to host a study visit by members of the Cyprus Dialogue Forum and representatives from Northern Ireland Co-operation Overseas (NI-CO).

As part of the visit the CCBS team presented a number of its core projects including the New Common Charter for Cooperation within and Between these Islands. Attendees had a fruitful discussion of the value of such an agreed set of shared principles including:

  • improving policy-making by matching it to realities on the ground;
  • and identifying cross-border opportunities to collaborate to solve shared problems or exploit common resources

Members also discussed the utility of a common charter for gathering a network of civil society organisations from a diverse variety of sectors where common concerns exist across multiple jurisdictions, and despite divergence in legislative systems and policies.

The Cyprus Dialogue Forum is a non-formal dialogue that aims to support and complement the formal peace process in Cyprus. It hopes to provide a safe space for broad based participation and knowledge sharing as an accompanying mechanism to the formal peace process. NI-CO is a not for profit, public body owned by Invest NI, dedicated to the pursuit of building efficient, accountable and sustainable public sector institutions capable of managing donor aid effectively and implementing positive change.
