Ad Hoc Group discusses latest Brexit updates and role of New Common Charter for cooperation

Posted On: 16 Nov 2021

East-West North-South

The Ad Hoc Group for North-South and East-West Cooperation met virtually on 16 November to discuss the ongoing negotiations between the UK Government and the European Union on the Ireland/Northern Ireland Protocol and to consider their impact on North-South and East-West Cooperation.

Members also discussed the revitalisation of the New Common Charter for cooperation within and between these islands – An initiative to empower civic society to drive cross-border, North-South and East-West cooperation across these islands. Members acknowledged the ongoing need for such a set of principles of cross-border cooperation and contributed to an initial strategy for expanding support for and consideration of the Charter’s principles at all levels of civil society and policymaking where cross border issues are potentially impacted.
