This year’s edition of The Journal of Cross Border Studies in Ireland – the nineteenth – is published in the year the Centre for Cross Border Studies marks its 25th anniversary.

To mark this important milestone we, as former and current Directors of the Centre, have come together to reflect on our times leading this organisation in the pursuit of its core mission to support improved cross‐border cooperation as an integral part of the ongoing peace and reconciliation process on the island of Ireland.

One of the tasks that we have all shared as Directors is the publication of this Journal.

The Journal of Cross Border Studies in Ireland has become a rich repository of insights into the building and maintaining of relations and cooperation that cross borders.

While many of the articles published over the years have had a focus on North‐South cooperation, others have looked at cooperation and relations between the island of Ireland and Great Britain, as well as between these islands and Europe.

The Journal has not only shared experiences of cross‐border cooperation on the island on which the Centre of Cross Border Studies is based, but it has also reflected on and shared the learning gained from cooperation that crosses other borders.
