House of Commons European Scrutiny Committee publishes CCBS response

CCBS’s evidence to the House of Commons European Scrutiny Committee’s inquiry into dispute resolution and enforcement in the draft Withdrawal Agreement has just been published. In its submission CCBS focused on issues relating to scrutiny of the implementation of the Protocol on Ireland/Northern Ireland, and highlighted areas where there are crucial details missing from the draft Agreement that need to be provided urgently in order for a proper assessment to be made. One of the critical areas is the composition of the proposed Specialised Committee on Ireland/Northern Ireland, which would have an important role, including on matters of North-South cooperation. Among its recommendations, CCBS stresses the need for any such committee to have representation from Northern Ireland and access to relevant, first-hand expertise.
