Yesterday’s plenary session in the Northern Ireland Assembly included a debate on remote working across the Island of Ireland.

The ‘Ireland and Northern Ireland – A Joint Census Publication 2021-2022’ found that over 18,000 workers regularly travel both ways across the border for work.

John O’Dowd, MLA, the Finance Minister, said cross-border workers who work remotely face outdated and complex tax rules that are creating unnecessary barriers for them, their employers and the all-island economy.

He added that he will continue to press both the Irish and British Governments to agree an effective solution.
