This week Anthony and Mark attended the ‘Fostering Community Safety and Security: An Open Dialogue’ conference organised by the BORDEX Project – a collaboration between researchers at Technological University Dublin and Queen’s University Belfast.
Matt Bowden, Allely Albert, Chloe Carragher and Amanda Kramer from the Research Team outlined the research project and emerging findings.
A representative from the Police Service of Northern Ireland gave an overview of statutory perspectives of security and community safety.
Attendees discussed key thematic safety issues and reflected on the main points: Addiction & Drugs; Youth; Gender and Violence against Women; Minoritised Ethnicities & Immigration; LGBTQ+ Communities; Legacy of Conflict (cross-community work, cultural celebration, paramilitarism, etc); Community Capacity Building (community development, residents associations, social support, conflict resolution, etc); and Poverty and Deprivation.
Representatives from Minority Ethnic Support Armagh, Davina’s Ark and Women’s Centre Derry shared their experiences in providing ‘front line’ support in their communities.
