Last week, the Ad‑Hoc Group for North‑South and East‑West Cooperation held a very productive meeting, with members discussing several important opportunities and challenges facing organisations working on a cross‑border basis across the island of Ireland.

Among the items discussed were:

  • strengthening collaboration among Ad‑Hoc Group members on issues affecting organisations cooperating on a North/South and East/West basis
  • the Group’s continued engagement on matters relating to the Windsor Framework, particularly Article 11 and the Necessary Conditions for North South Cooperation, and
  • ongoing work of the New Common Charter, which supports the sharing of best practice, practical challenges, and lived experience from community and voluntary organisations delivering cross‑border projects.

The meeting also featured an insightful presentation on the Bridge2Brussels initiative, which aims to support Northern Ireland and border‑region civil society organisations by tracking EU legislative developments, ahead of its launch later this year.

Drawing together a wide range of organisations from across Northern Ireland and Ireland, the Ad‑Hoc Group for North South and East West Cooperation has been established as a key contact point for meaningful consultation between cross‑border civil society and regional, national, and EU bodies.

The Group provides a collective voice on matters relevant to cooperation between Northern Ireland and Ireland, and between the island of Ireland and Great Britain.
