Floran Echasserieau, a Master’s Student in European Law at the University of Strasbourg, has joined the Centre for three months as legal intern.
He will be working on legal issues surrounding cross-border cooperation and the complex and evolving relationships between Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, the UK and the European Union.
Floran will be attending conferences, webinars, training courses and other events.
He has also been a delegate at a major conference which examined the intersection of artificial intelligence(AI)-driven crime investigation and data protection: ‘AI-based crime investigation: a game changer to privacy?’.
The two-part conference at Saarland University in Germany (6-7 March) and University of Strasbourg in France (15-16 May) involved crime investigation professionals, IT researchers, and leading legal experts in data protection, and AI and criminal law.
Along with two students, Floran will be writing an article on the use of AI as a border control tool and the serious risks it poses to human rights.
