Mairead McGuinness has delivered the Centre’s inaugural Annual Lecture, which also marked the 10th Anniversary of Dublin City University’s Brexit Institute.
Mairead is the EU Special Envoy for the Promotion of Freedom of Religion or Belief (and former European Commissioner for Financial Stability, Financial Services and the Capital Markets Union) – her “10 years on from the Brexit referendum: The future of Ireland in Europe” lecture can be watched here.
The CCBC team is grateful to the Irish Foreign Ministry for hosting the lecture in Iveagh House, Dublin, on 15 June.
Laura Mahoney (Executive Director of Engagement at DCU and Board Member at the CCBC) welcomed 80 speakers and guests, and Neale Redmond, TD (Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade with responsibility for International Development and Diaspora) made the opening remarks.
Dr Anthony Soares, the CCBC’s Director, said: “Research and analysis is at the heart of everything we do.
“Whatever conclusions we reach as a result of our research and analysis informs our actions in terms of advancing cross-border cooperation and supporting and working with those involved in cooperation on a North-South or East-West basis, or cooperation at a European level.
“The UK’s referendum on EU membership almost ten years ago meant that much of our focus was on what that decision would mean for cooperation and relations within and across these islands.
“Our work in this area actually began in August 2013, as the UK Government initiated a comprehensive review of the balance of EU competences and the UK’s national interests.
“Our annual conference this year, taking place on 17 September, will also looking to maximise the full potential of cross-border cooperation in terms of the creation of talent.”
