The contributors to the 2025 edition of The Journal of Cross Border Studies in Ireland were participants in the September conference, on the theme of “The All-Island Labour Market: Challenges and Opportunities”, with the exception of Una McCabe who was a delegate rather than a speaker.
The articles included in the Journal are generally shorter than those in previous editions, but this has been done deliberately.
The issues relating to cross-border labour mobility are complex and cut across several fields, which often means that they are not usually accessible to a non-expert audience.
We have tried to present these issues in a way that is as accessible as possible without necessarily overlooking the complexities involved.
The Centre stands ready to collaborate with others to seek the removal of administrative and other obstacles that would provide the necessary cross-border mobility for an effective all-island labour market, as well as to maximise the opportunities that could result from all-island skills and apprenticeship programmes.
This edition of The Journal of Cross Border Studies in Ireland serves, therefore, as a means to amplify the calls for action made by several of its contributors.
