On the 15th of July the New Common Charter for Cooperation Within and Between these Islands went to the House of Commons in London.

Hosted by Tom Brake MP, a dissemination event took place in Parliament, informing MPs from across the political spectrum about the aspirations for continued cross-border and cross-jurisdictional cooperation voiced by community groups and organisations from across these islands, and looking for legislators’ support in order for this to happen in whatever circumstances we may face in the coming months and years.

This event was part of the Towards a New Common Chapter project, funded by the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust, the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Reconciliation Fund, and the Community Relations Council. The engagement with MPs and members of the House of Lords continued after the presentation made by CCBS Acting Director, Anthony Soares, the Deputy CEO of Longford Women’s Link, Tara Farrell, and Engender’s Policy and Parliamentary Manager, Eilidh Dickson, which was also attended by Mr Gerald Angley, Deputy Head of Mission at the Irish Embassy in London.

This visit to London follows similar engagement events in the Houses of the Oireachtas in Dublin, a plenary session of the British Irish Parliamentary Assembly, and will be followed by others planned for Edinburgh and Cardiff.
