CCBS Director Ruth Taillon and CCBS Deputy Director Anthony Soares presented oral evidence to the British-Irish Parliamentary Assembly Committee on Sovereign Matters at a special session in Belfast on 23 January. The Committee was interested in the implications of Brexit for Ireland, as well as Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK. In particular, members of the Committee asked for CCBS’s views on:
- Implications of Brexit for trade for both Northern Ireland and Ireland (and in particular NI’s place in the custom union and single market);
- Possible options for the border between Northern Ireland and Ireland;
- The movement of people between Ireland, Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK (and how this could be managed/monitored); and
- Reciprocal rights of Irish and Northern Irish citizens.
The Briefing Notes from the session are available below.
