CCBS Cordially Invites You to Attend the Inaugural Sir George Quigley Memorial Lecture
‘Competitiveness on the Island of Ireland’
Delivered by
Professor Frances Ruane
Former Director, Economic and Social Research Institute
15th JUNE 2016
Armagh Public Library
Sir George Quigley has been justly recognised as the ‘father’ of practical North-South cooperation on the island of Ireland. Throughout his extensive career in public service and later prominent business role, Sir George championed the call for an ‘island economy’, through cross-border cooperation, as an essential means for peace and reconciliation in Ireland. In setting a standard for policy making and discourse, Sir George was a leading exponent of economic reform, in highlighting the need for a new skills base and lower rate of corporation tax to attract high value industry.
In this spirit, this inaugural memorial lecture, delivered by Professor Frances Ruane (Former Director of the Economic and Social Research Institute) will explore the state of economic competitiveness in each jurisdiction on the island of Ireland, against the backdrop of the current economic and political climate.
The event is free of charge, however places are limited so early registration is recommended. To register please visit our Eventbrite page here.
