Study on 2002-2007 North-South Student Teacher Exchange project

This longitudinal study by Dr Maeve Martin, Senior Lecturer in Education at NUI Maynooth, looks at the impact on its participating student teachers and college lecturers of the 2002-2007 EU-Funded North-South Student Teacher Exchange project. The project, which was managed by the Centre for Cross Border Studies, involved 103 student teachers doing a significant portion of their assessed teaching practice in schools in the other Irish jurisdiction. Thus students from colleges in Dublin and Limerick did their teaching practice in the Belfast area, while students from Belfast did their teaching practice in Dublin and Limerick. The participating colleges were Stranmillis University College and St Mary’s University College in Belfast; St Patrick’s College Drumcondra, Marino Institute of Education, Church of Ireland College Rathmines and Froebel College, all in Dublin; and Mary Immaculate College in Limerick.
