First conference of the North-South Chairs Forum

This conference brought together the chairs of public and semi-state agencies in both jurisdictions to discuss matters of mutual interest. The conference was organised by the Centre and was held in the Canal Court Hotel in Newry.

The opening speakers were the two most senior civil servants on the island: Mr Dermot McCarthy, Secretary General to the Irish Government and Secretary General of the Department of the Taoiseach, and Mr Nigel Hamilton, Head of the Northern Ireland Civil Service, Head of the Office of First Minister and Deputy First Minister, and Secretary to the Northern Ireland Executive. Other speakers included Mr Tom Frawley, the Northern Ireland Ombudsman, and Mr Eddie O’Connor, Chief Executive of Airtricity and former Managing Director of Bord na Mona.
