The keynote speakers were Professor Linda Nielsen, Rector of Copenhagen University, one of the driving forces behind the Øresund cross-border university network linking 12 higher education institutions in Denmark and southern Sweden; and Professor Gerry McKenna, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ulster and Chairman of Universities Ireland, linking the nine universities on the island of Ireland.
This conference series was organised by the Centre for Cross Border Studies on behalf of a high level committee representing theDepartment for Employment and Learning (Belfast), the Department of Education and Science (Dublin), Universities Ireland, the Council of Directors of Institutes of Technology, the Association of Northern Ireland Colleges and NUS-USI.
